The Qatar 2022 World Cup has had significant surprises, both good and bad, and one of the most unfortunate has been the injury list from top-tier players such as the winner of The Balon D’or winner Karim Benzema as well as his teammate Paul Pogba.
Here is the list of players who unfortunately will miss the greatest soccer event of the last few years.
Paul Pogba (FRANCE)
Pogba was already on the injured list due to knee surgery in September to repair a damaged meniscus.
N’golo Kante (FRANCE)
The midfielder had a hamstring injury and is sidelined waiting for surgery.
Timo Werner (GERMANY)
RB Leipzig’s forward is on the injured list due to a damaged ankle during the team’s Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk and will miss the rest of 2022.
Reece James (ENGLAND)
He is currently sustaining an injured knee since October and declined the invitation to England’s National team.
Diogo Jota (PORTUGAL)
The forward will miss the tournament due to a calf injury when they met Manchester City,
Pedro Neto (PORTUGAL)
Neto will have ankle surgery after the game against West Ham United back in October.
Boubacar Kamara (FRANCE)
The midfielder had a knee ligament injury in September which will prevent him to participate in the World Cup.
Arthur Melo (BRAZIL)
The midfielder has a muscle injury while playing with the Rangers in October.
Scott Kennedy (CANADA)
The Canadian defender has a complicated shoulder injury while playing in the German second division.
Jesus ‘Tecatito’ Corona (MEXICO)
The Mexican striker has a fracture on his left ankle and underwent surgery.
Giovani Lo Celso (ARGENTINA)
The midfielder has a hamstring injury that unfortunately made him miss the team.
Marco Reus (GERMANY)
The Dortmund captain had an ankle injury and could not fully recover, making him miss part of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil when they won the title.
Ben Chilwell (ENGLAND)
He is having to deal with a hamstring injury and suffered significant damage which ruled him out of the World Cup.
Prensel Kimpembe (FRANCE)
The PSG player has a hamstring injury that is preventing him from performing.
Yuta Nakayama (JAPAN)
Ruled out because of an Achilles heel injury.
Amine Harit (MOROCCO)
Morocco’s forward suffered a knee injury during a match against AS Monaco.
Sadio Mane (SENEGAL)
Sadio Mane is still on the roster for Senegal’s squad despite suffering an injury while playing for his new team Bayern Munich.
Christopher Nkuku (FRANCE)
The forward is still on France’s roster for the World Cup but is sustaining a left knee injury during training.
Jose Gaya (SPAIN)
The Spanish player is sustaining an ankle injury suffered during training.
Karim Benzema (FRANCE)
The latest surprise has been the Real Madrid striker and Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema who just suffered an injury while training a day prior to the start of the tournament.
