The World Cup is the tournament that brings together the biggest stars from around the world. However, there are the unfortunate few who fail to qualify or, worse, suffer a heart-breaking injury ahead of the tournament.
The Qatar tournament will be no different, with world renowned stars like Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah among the big names who will out.
Haaland’s absence is one of the most notable, as the current Golden Boot leader will not be in Qatar. Norway have not qualified and, consequently, his compatriot Martin Odegaard will not be there either.
The same goes for Salah, one of Liverpool‘s key players and considered one of the best players in the world. Egypt are not among the teams that will play in the World Cup, despite being so successful in Africa in the last decade.
The big surprise was the late withdrawal of Sadio Mane. The Senegalese has failed to recover from injury in time, picking it up just before the tournament started.
Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante and Presnel Kimpembe will all miss out for France after being among the squad that won it in 2018.
There are also several Real Madrid players who will not be able to represent their countries at the World Cup. David Alaba and Austria are out of the World Cup, while Didier Deschamps has decided to do without Ferland Mendy.
Italy, one of the regulars at World Cups, have failed to qualify, leaving out big stars such as Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marco Verrati, Nicolo Barella and Federico Chiesa.
Colombia will not be in Qatar 2022, meaning that Luis Diaz, Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez will not be able to participate in the tournament.
