World Cup 2022: Ghana captain Andre Ayew urges teammates to stay united ahead of Mundial

Andre Ayew has called on his Black Stars teammates to stay united ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar which get underway on Sunday.

Ghana has made a return to the Mundial for the fourth time having missed out on the last edition hosted in 2018 in Russia.

Andre, speaking on his relationship with his brother [Jordan Ayew] said they are both hoping to leave, a mark on the national team.

However, he called on his teammates to come together and stay united and make Ghana proud in the Gulf country.

“Both of us are capable of making our own mark and playing at the highest level,” he told

“We’ll go out there to do our best for Ghana and make the country proud. I played in two World Cups, Jordan in one, so we know what to expect but it’s ultimately a collective effort, not just the two of us.

“The whole team has to come together, work hard and give our best. I think each of the players has what it takes to make their country proud on this world stage,” he added.

Ghana are expected to arrive in Doha later tonight for the 22nd edition of the global showpiece. The Black Stars wrapped up their preparation with a 2-0 win over Switzerland.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Portugal on November 24 at Stadium 974 in Doha.

Four days later, the Black Stars return to action with a clash with South Korea at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan.

Ghana will wrap up its group stage adventure with their much-anticipated encounter with Uruguay at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.

The Black Stars having missed out in the last edition hosted in Russia in 2018 will be hoping to improve their performance in Qatar after exiting at the group phase during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
