Manchester United’s performance levels have plummeted since the team lifted the League Cup, defender Luke Shaw said after they were thrashed 7-0 by arch rivals Liverpool in the Premier League.
United arrived at Anfield on an 11-game unbeaten run, but it was the club’s worst defeat ever. since losing 7-0 to Wolves in 1931.
The defeat came a week after United clinched their first trophy since 2017 by winning the League Cup by beating Newcastle. United in the final
“It’s totally unacceptable,” Shaw told MUTV. “Our standards have obviously dropped since we won that trophy and in the last two games we haven’t been ourselves normally.”
United conceded six of their seven goals in the second half, while Kodi Kakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah each scored twice for Liverpool.
“We have to find good things. that we have done before and bring it back because it was very painful And it’s really unacceptable. with what we did in the second half,” added Shaw. “We show no personality and no idea.”
Erik ten Hag was furious with the performance. “Unprofessional” of his side
“The results are quite clear,” said the Dutchman. “It’s unprofessional.
“But I think it’s a big difference in Brentford. [In August] we were 4-0 down at halftime. So we got off to a really bad start.
“Today, in the first half, I think we were the better team, in the first half we created better chances. And we have two goalkeepers one-on-one. But they don’t have one.”
“Then before half-time we made a mistake [in terms of] an organization and we conceded a goal. So I think we’re in the game.
“So it was a big surprise to me that after half-time we lost the game so quickly.
“The first two goals, two moments to change the defensive game. The first is game-changing. And the second moment is a counterattack.
“We made such a bad decision. It’s a matter of deciding on the ball. Obviously at first But then the way we predict The way we conceded was really annoying.
“Then the third one is a counterattack. Totally unprofessional about making decisions, not getting behind and running forward. Let the spaces in the back of the midfield not go behind, and especially that one, not counter-attack.
“Then it was 3-0 and then the game was lost. Then as a team you have to work together. And that’s what we didn’t do. And that was a surprise to me.”
“I didn’t see this from my team. I don’t think it’s us I don’t think this is Manchester United, which is bad and bad.”
