Sources on Tyneside respond to Saint-Maximin rumours and Everton give up on Gordon – Report

The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has released a lunchtime update on the Toon transfer front, revealing the noises coming from Newcastle and Everton on Allan Saint-Maximin and Anthony Gordon.

Starting with the Frenchman, ‘sources on Tyneside’ have today rubbished suggestions he could leave before next Tuesday’s deadline.

He remains part of Eddie Howe’s plans, as the club have no interest in letting him depart as we push for Carabao Cup glory and a top four finish in the Premier League.

This comes after the Italian media have talked up a potential move to AC Milan, over the past 48 hours, with Sky in Italy suggesting last night that he could leave if an offer in excess of £30m arriveds.

As for Gordon, Ryder reports that Everton are now ‘resigned’ to losing the 21-year-old this month.

The winger missed training at Finch Farm for the THIRD day in a row this morning and has made it clear he wants to sign at St James’ Park this month.

It remains to be seen what is really going on behind the scenes – this could be classic posturing from Everton to make it seems like they’ve been backed into a corner – but it’s starting to feel like a matter of when, not if he arrives before next Tuesday’s deadline.

Meanwhile, the club announced just moments ago that U21 striker Dylan Stephenson has joined Hamilton for the remainder of the season, joining Garang Kuol in Scotland.
