Player-plus-cash offer rejected as Newcastle get creative in bid to bolster attack

According to The Mail, Newcastle tried to use Chris Wood as bait in a deal for Everton’s Anthony Gordon.

In their latest ‘exclusive’, they report that we offered the New Zealand international as part of a ‘swap deal’ for the winger last week.

However, it seems the Toffees had no interest in receiving Wood plus cash for the 21-year-old, as the former Burnley striker ended up signing at Nottingham Forest on an initial loan which includes a £15m obligation to buy.

If we are looking to get creative and offering current players as part of the package, it wouldn’t surprise me if fellow wide man Ryan Fraser has also been offered their way.

The Mail add that Gordon is now trying to force through a move to St James’ Park, with the England U21 star desperate to link up with Eddie Howe.

With formal talks still taking place, the player burning bridges, personal terms agreed – according to Fabrizio Romano – and Everton expected to make a decision soon, it’s starting to feel like a matter of time until the brinkmanship ends with him holding up a black and white shirt in front of the Milburn.

How do you see it panning out? Will Everton buckle or could Newcastle dig their heels and look elsewhere if a breakthrough doesn’t come soon?

🗞️Everton’s valuation of £55M for Gordon goes above what Newcastle are willing to pay. Chris Wood was offered to them as part of a swap deal before he agreed to join Nottingham Forest
