Chelsea must look at this week as a chance to begin the season all over again and start a clean slate.
We face Bournemouth on Tuesday night in our first Premier League game back in over a month after the World Cup forced a break in play. Chelsea have had the perfect chance to rest up and reset ready for the return of league football, but now they must make full use of this break and make sure they come back hitting the ground running.
There is no easy game in the Premier League, but a fixture at home against Bournemouth, who are currently down in 14th place in the table, should be looked at as one of the more favourable games we could have been drawn for this week. Chelsea must use this game to bounce back and restart our season, and we must look to make a statement in our performance as well.
Chelsea had a number of players playing at the World Cup, but even still, many of them were still left behind back at Cobham and have been able to work on a number of things in training with Graham Potter. They also had a short holiday and some time to rest, which is unheard of in the English league midway through a season.
Of course, all clubs had this, but the poor form and performances Chelsea were showing before this break started, really does mean that they needed it more than many clubs. It’s like a season ending really and then a new season starting again, or at least that is how Chelsea should look at it.
Start again, and have a much better second half to the season, and hopefully be able to salvage something from it as they look to rebuild a team that want to challenge at the very top again. Let’s head in that direction whilst we transition.
