Ahead of the January transfer window, The Mail have released a piece on some of the winter deals on Newcastle United’s radar.
A few surprise names feature, with the first being Chelsea’s soon-to-be out of contract midfielder Jorginho.
He doesn’t fit the bill from an age point of view – the Italian international turned 31 last week – but he could be available on a cut-price fee next month and would add bundles of top level experience to this side; which could be useful in Jonjo Shelvey’s absence.
The same piece claims that we are also targeting Rayo Vallecano left-back Fran Garcia. The 23-year-old is a Spanish U21 international and valued at €8m by Transfermarkt.
Two midfielders mentioned are Nice’s Khephren Thuram and Borussia Monchengladbach talent Kouadio Kone, although it’s thought the Bundesliga side are reluctant to sell the latter.
The piece also adds, ‘Newcastle will be prudent, but they would still like a young goalkeeper, a right back, a left back, a right-sided centre back, a holding midfielder and a winger, but not at inflated prices.’
Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is ‘admired’ but is strictly not for sale at this stage given the Serie A giants great form in league and Europe.
