Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale is a furniture magnate in Houston who made another massive sports bet that is already looking like a winner.
McIngvale, 71, bet $1.5 million on the Houston Cougars basketball team to win the NCAA national championship.
The pair of bets on the Cougars to win it all this season were placed at 10/1 odds, which would pay McIngvale a whopping $14 million.
Mattress Mack recently won the largest legal payout in sports betting history when the Houston Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2022 MLB World Series.
He went viral after wheeling millions of dollars in cash onto his private jet following the World Series victory.
Houston Cougars on a winning streak
Despite the large payout, McIngvale does not keep any of the cash, as the wagers are part of a promo for his furniture store.
“I make these bets because we do promotions at the furniture store. Like, if the Astros win the World Series you get your money back,” McIngvale said. “I won $75 million on that bet, gave back $73 million to the customers and the other $2 million was expenses. It enables us to run these great promotions.”
As far as his bet for the No. 3 Cougs (4-0) to win the NCAA tournament, the team is riding a four-game win streak heading into Sunday’s clash against Oregon Ducks.
March Madness will be a wild ride for Mattress Mack and his customers, who will undoubtedly be rooting on the Cougars.
