Joelinton now at risk of Newcastle United axe ahead of Sunday’s clash with Fulham

Newcastle star Joelinton is at risk of being dropped for our Premier League clash against Fulham following his arrest for drink-driving on Thursday morning.

The Brazilian was pulled over by police at 1:20am, just a matter of hours before training, and arrested for breaching the alcohol limit, with a court date already set for January 26.

This difficult situation could certainly affect his place in the team on Sunday, with Eddie Howe unlikely to just forgive and forget so quickly given Joelinton is a role model who should know better.

Howe is due to hold his pre-match press conference from the club’s training ground this morning, so it’ll be interesting to see what the boss has to say on the matter.

It remains to be seen how severe the punishment will be, but many feel he is likely to be left out of this weekend’s squad as a result of his actions. Not only are Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak are back fit, it may sent out the wrong message to keep him in the side.

It’s very disappointing from the much-loved midfielder and no fan should be defending this type of behaviour. However, it is now for the club to deal with and decide the best course of action.

No doubt Joelinton himself will be frustrated with his moment of madness – rightfully so – and hopefully he will learn his lesson for good.

There really is nothing to defend Joelinton when it comes to drunk driving and it’s even worse when you’re a professional athlete.
No shame to see him get dropped by Eddie Howe this weekend when he’s been performing so well but as I’ve said, no excuse for such idiocy. #NUFC
