How the Chiefs managed to ridicule both Elon Musk and the Chargers with a single brilliant tweet

The Kansas City Chiefs victory over the LA Chargers (30-27) was easily NFL Sunday’s most entertaining game. The Mahomes vs Herbert QB duel lived up to expectations, and the lead kept going back and forth until the very last minute. But it was the actions of the Chiefs on social media that hit the night home for KC.

Shortly after sealing the win, the visiting team managed to take a shot at both the Chargers (whom will likely miss out on the AFC West crown for the 14th time in a row), and new Twitter owner & CEO Elon Musk.

With no text and simply a ‘zipper-mouth’ emoji, the Chiefs Twitter account posted an altered mobile screenshot of the Chargers profile. In it, you see a shadowed version of the LA team’s timeline, and below the phrase: “The account is verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue“.

So what does it mean? All Twitter verified users before Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover were given blue checkmarks in order to avoid impersonation and highlighted as a relevant entity. Under Elon Musk‘s ownership, however, anyone can purchase a blue checkmark for $8 a month under ‘Twitter Blue’, which created utter mayhem and even caused some companies’ stocks to plunge due to impersonations.

In essence, by showing the Chargers‘ profile being a Twitter Blue subscriber, they are belittling the franchise’s relevance, officiality, and poking fun at them not getting verified when there were actual standards.

Are the Chargers really a ‘Twitter Blue’ subscriber?

The answer is no. The Chiefs’ CM altered the screenshot of the Chargers profile. When one clicks on the LA franchise’s checkmark this is the message this is shown: “This account is verified because it’s notable in government, news, entertainment, or another designated category.”

To make things more funny, though, the ‘bolts’ actually only have one very short sentence as their Twitter bio: “yes, it’s really us”. Which makes the Chiefs‘ dig all the more realistic looking.
