Chelsea’s midfield is in desperate need of a revamp. At the moment, it is ageing and lacks many elements that any midfield of a team who wants to challenge at the very top should have.
Chelsea’s new owners are seemingly fully aware of this and are targeting a serious midfield rebuild in the next couple of transfer windows.
News has come from nowhere over the last 24 hours regarding Chelsea going hard to try and sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica. The rising star has just had an excellent World Cup, helping win it with Argentina, and now he is the subject of transfer intent.
Chelsea looking like they are willing to dop over £100m on signing Enzo, really does show just how serious the club are now about rebuilding the midfield, something that is needed.
N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are no closer to signing new deals as of now, and there has even been recent talk that both will leave in the summer as free agents, and Jorginho might even leave in January, according to one report.
Jorginho, expiring in 2023, could leave #CFC as early as January: Newcastle is very interested in the midfielder. #Chelsea would also have ready an offer of more than 100 million for Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez, the 21 year-old named the Best Young Player of #Qatar2022 . pic.twitter.com/iIey6vnJbP

Swapping in Enzo for Jorginho would be a great move, and if Chelsea can then add one or two more midfielders to the ranks over the next couple of windows, that would go a really long way in helping them with their climb back to the very top.
The midfield is the most important position on the pitch, and Chelsea’s has just grown stale, and has needed a revamp for some time. I’m so pleased that our new ambitious owners are prepared to do this.
