Bad news on Sunday for NUFC as rivals in top four race make statement – Updated PL table

The top four race has taken a host of huge swings over the past few weeks, but Sunday afternoon served up one of the biggest yet as Liverpool battered Manchester United 7-0 – yes, SEVEN – at Anfield.

A fortnight ago, we would’ve moved 12 points clear of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds had we beaten them on Tyneside. It wasn’t to be, despite a superb effort with 10 men, but since then we’ve seen Liverpool pick up three wins and a draw, while we’ve lost in the Carabao Cup final and fell to a 2-0 defeat at Man City on Saturday.

That 10 point swing means they have now leapfrogged us in the table on Sunday night, moving three points behind Spurs (4th) and becoming the bookies new favourite to seal a top four finish following their historic 7-0 win over the Red Devils.

It’s a real worry to see Liverpool hit top gear as we approach the business end of the season. They were back to their best at Anfield and made a serious statement, while it also felt bittersweet to to see Man Utd collapse just seven days after they beat us to the Carabao Cup at Wembley!

The good news for us is Tottenham fell to a 2-0 defeat at Wolves on Saturday. We also have two games in hand on Spurs – who we are four points behind – an one in hand on Liverpool ahead of upcoming clashes with Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

Brighton are now three points behind us (with a game in hand) after they smashed West Ham 4-0, while Fulham would go above us if they beat Brentford on Monday night.
