Anthony Gordon has told Everton he has ‘no intention of returning to the club’ in a bid to force through a move to Newcastle United.
This comes from The Mail, who claim that the 21-year-old has now taken matters into his own hands by failing to report for training on Wednesday and Thursday, after his pre-agreed absence on Tuesday.
The England U21 star has started just one game for the Toffees since football resumed following the World Cup break and was chased down the street by Blues fans following a 2-1 defeat to Southampton earlier this month.
Elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano has also issued a potentially significant update on the winger, claiming that he’s already agreed personal terms with the club.
That means little if no agreement is reached over a transfer fee, but Romano expects Everton to ‘make a decision soon’ after receiving an official bid from Newcastle earlier this week.
Gordon going AWOL won’t go down well on Merseyside, with some feeling it throws up more questions about his character, however we don’t know the full picture. For all we know, this is clever posturing from Everton to make it look like they’ve been backed into a corner and forced to sell their boyhood fan.
